Ogun Tech Experts Call for Stronger Digital Literacy, Local Technology Development

Ai

Technology experts in Ogun State have called for stronger digital literacy, improved internet services and greater support for local technology developers as artificial intelligence continues to change the way Nigerians work and communicate.

The experts made the call during Naija.AI, a technology programme on Royal FM 90.7, Abeokuta, hosted by Gift Oba.

President of OgunTech Community, Adekunle Durosinmi, said Ogun State has the potential to become a major technology hub if local talents and developers receive the necessary support.

Durosinmi said OgunTech is focused on developing local technology solutions and building a community of skilled professionals, with more than 800 individual members and over 60 corporate members.

He also expressed concern about the cost and quality of internet services, particularly in Abeokuta, calling for improved digital infrastructure and more affordable data.

On cybersecurity, Community Manager of OgunTech, Raji, urged Nigerians to be cautious when using the internet, warning against phishing links, fake websites and the sharing of sensitive information such as NIN, BVN, ATM card details and passwords.

The experts also raised concerns about the use of artificial intelligence to create fake audio, videos and cloned voices, urging Nigerians to verify information before believing or sharing it.

They advised users to activate two-factor authentication, use strong passwords and carefully check links before clicking on them.

The experts stressed that digital literacy remains essential to the responsible use of artificial intelligence, encouraging Nigerians to “learn, unlearn and relearn” as technology continues to evolve.
