FG Urges Tech Firms to Adopt Nigeria’s New Digital Postcode System

Bosun Tijani

The Federal Government has urged technology developers, businesses and other stakeholders to build digital services around Nigeria’s newly launched National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System.
The system, launched through the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) on October 1, 2026, assigns every addressable building in Nigeria a unique 11-character digital postcode linked to its geographical location.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said the launch marks only the beginning, stressing that the system’s wider impact will depend on its integration into existing digital products and services.
Tijani said his ministry would work with NIPOST, government agencies, businesses and the technology community to integrate the digital postcode system into various platforms.
Powered by Geographic Information System technology, the system is designed to support services in areas including e-commerce, logistics, emergency response, financial services and public service delivery.
NIPOST’s official platform also allows organisations to verify customer and merchant addresses, look up building postcodes and integrate the postcode system into their applications.
The Federal Government encouraged individuals, businesses and organisations to identify and begin using their digital postcodes in everyday transactions and operations.
