Rivers Police Extends Tinted Glass Enforcement Deadline to October 31

Police sure

The Rivers State Police Command has extended the deadline for the enforcement of the ban on unauthorised tinted glasses on commercial vehicles to October 31, 2026.

The extension was announced by the command following appeals from transport union leaders to give affected vehicle operators more time to comply with the directive.

The command, led by Commissioner of Police CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, urged all commercial vehicle operators to use the final grace period to remove unauthorised tinted glasses and regularise their vehicles.

The police warned that from November 1, 2026, vehicles found violating the directive would be subjected to enforcement and sanctions in accordance with the law.

The command also directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to ensure strict compliance and conduct thorough but lawful searches during enforcement operations, particularly when security concerns arise.

It further directed that tricycles, popularly known as Keke, must not operate beyond 10:00 p.m. in the state, urging Area Commanders and DPOs to ensure strict enforcement of the restriction.

The command, however, warned police officers against using the enforcement exercise to extort or harass members of the public.

According to the statement, any officer found engaging in extortion or abusing the enforcement process will face appropriate disciplinary action.

The police urged transport operators to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with the command in maintaining peace and security across Rivers State.
