The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling insecurity, poverty and other challenges facing Nigerians.

Obi disclosed this in a statement following an interactive town hall meeting organised by the party in Kaduna State, where he joined Kwankwaso and other party candidates to engage directly with citizens.

The meeting, held after Obi’s visit to the Sheikh Muhammad Sambo Memorial Islamic Institute in Rigachikun, Kaduna, formed part of the party’s ongoing engagements with Nigerians. A similar town hall meeting was recently held in Port Harcourt.

According to Obi, the engagement allowed the candidates to listen to citizens’ concerns, respond to questions and discuss solutions to the country’s pressing challenges.

He said the party would prioritise national unity, poverty reduction, healthcare and education, while aggressively addressing insecurity to enable Nigerians to return safely to their homes, communities and farms.

Obi also stressed the need to tackle corruption and inefficiencies in the fuel subsidy system, reduce the burden of fuel costs and build an economy that would support Nigerians in living decent and dignified lives.

The former Anambra State governor called on political opponents to engage directly with citizens, saying people-centred governance remains central to democracy.
