If We Get Leadership Right, We Can Get Nigeria Right — Peter Obi

Obi

The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has sparked reactions with his declaration that “if we get leadership right, we can get Nigeria right.”

Obi made the statement while speaking with young Nigerian professionals in Washington, D.C., where he discussed good governance, national development and the reforms needed to move the country forward.

He said Nigeria’s progress would require responsible and compassionate leadership, stronger institutions and prudent management of public resources.

According to Obi, the country’s greatest resource is not its oil or other natural resources but its people, stressing the need for leaders who would put citizens first.

He also called for greater investment in education and healthcare, support for businesses and entrepreneurs, and the creation of jobs and opportunities for young Nigerians.

Obi further said Nigerians in the diaspora should be regarded as partners in national development, urging the country to create conditions that would encourage them to return, invest and contribute to Nigeria’s growth.

He maintained that building the Nigeria Nigerians desire would not happen by accident, but would require citizens to remain committed and continue demanding better governance.

“We must continue to believe. We must continue to work. And we must continue to demand a country that works for everyone,” Obi said.
