Ondo Govt Warns Against Uncertified Herbal Concoctions

aiyedatiwa

The Ondo State Government has warned residents against consuming unapproved substances, herbal drinks, concoctions and other products that have not been certified safe for human consumption.

The warning followed a recent incident in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, which reportedly resulted in the loss of lives.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, on Thursday, the government urged residents to avoid substances of doubtful origin, stressing that the health and wellbeing of citizens remain a priority of the administration.

The government also cautioned producers, sellers and distributors of uncertified substances to immediately stop the production, sale and distribution of such products, warning that violators could face sanctions under the law.

It further warned residents, particularly youths, against drug abuse and the unauthorised use of substances capable of causing serious health complications or death.

According to the government, residents should obtain medicines and other consumable products only from authorised and regulated outlets and seek professional medical advice instead of relying on unverified remedies.

The state government said it is investigating the Odigbo incident to determine the actual cause of the deaths, adding that relevant agencies are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It also appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could create unnecessary panic.

The government commended the Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area, Hon. Taiwo Adegboye, for his prompt response to the situation and efforts to protect residents.

The government urged citizens to report suspicious activities involving the production, sale or distribution of dangerous, illegal or unapproved substances to the appropriate authorities.
