Apple Set for Major Hardware Expansion as iPhone 18 Pro Rumours Intensify
Apple is reportedly preparing for one of its biggest hardware expansions in years, with the company expected to introduce new designs, device categories and form factors over the coming years.
The next phase could begin with Apple’s September 9 event, where the company is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and new Apple Watch models, alongside other products.
One of the biggest rumours ahead of the event is Apple’s first foldable iPhone, reportedly called the iPhone Ultra. The device is expected to feature a large internal display and a smaller outer screen, with a design that folds to roughly passport size. Reports have also linked the device to the A20 Pro chip, C2 modem, Touch ID and an improved hinge system, while its expected price could exceed $2,000.
Meanwhile, attention has also focused on a rumoured Dark Cherry colour for the iPhone 18 Pro. Although Apple has not confirmed the colour, an AI-generated fan advertisement by creator Kaye Creatives has gained attention online after portraying the phone in the dark wine-like shade.
The Dark Cherry colour was previously reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and later featured in reports and leaked dummy models. The shade has been described as falling somewhere between burgundy, coffee and dark purple, with its appearance expected to vary depending on lighting.
Beyond the iPhone, Apple is reportedly developing refreshed Apple Watch models, AirPods, Apple TV, HomePod mini, iPad mini and Mac computers. The company is also said to be working on an OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro and its first smart home hub with a display.
Apple’s longer-term roadmap reportedly extends into 2027, 2028 and beyond, with projects including smart glasses, camera-equipped AirPods, redesigned iPhones, additional foldable devices and AI-focused home products.
