Mushin Council Intensifies Environmental Cleanup Along Agege Motor Road, Isolo Axis
The Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe, has intensified efforts to improve environmental cleanliness and promote a healthier, safer and more sustainable environment across the council area.
The latest intervention is focused on major road corridors, particularly Agege Motor Road and the Isolo Road axis, where accumulated refuse is being evacuated as part of the council’s ongoing environmental efforts.
The exercise, being carried out in collaboration with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), is aimed at restoring environmental sanity to the affected areas and improving the overall appearance of the community.
According to the local government administration, the removal of accumulated waste is also important in preventing refuse from obstructing drainage channels, particularly during the rainy season. Blocked drainage systems can contribute to flooding and create unhealthy conditions for residents and other road users.
Aruwe stressed that maintaining a clean environment should not be left to government agencies alone, describing environmental cleanliness as a shared responsibility between the government and residents.
While acknowledging LAWMA’s responsibility for waste evacuation across Lagos State, the chairman urged residents, traders, shop owners and motorists to support the efforts by ensuring that their waste is properly disposed of.
He specifically appealed to residents to desist from dumping refuse on roads, walkways, medians and drainage channels, warning that such practices could undermine government’s efforts to maintain a clean and flood-resilient community.
The chairman said indiscriminate dumping of waste not only affects the physical appearance of the environment but can also create challenges for drainage and sanitation, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
“Our commitment is to a cleaner and healthier Mushin. We will continue to support every legitimate effort that improves our environment, while appealing to our people to take ownership of the cleanliness of their communities,” Aruwe said.
He further assured residents that the local government would continue to work with relevant state government agencies and other stakeholders to identify environmental challenges and facilitate appropriate interventions in different communities within Mushin.
The administration also called on residents to cooperate with LAWMA officials and environmental personnel during waste evacuation exercises, stressing the importance of making proper waste disposal a daily habit.
The council maintained that sustained cooperation between government agencies and residents would be essential to achieving a cleaner Mushin, improving public spaces and reducing environmental conditions that could contribute to flooding and other sanitation challenges.
