Kogi PWD Campaign Network Hails APC Governments, Pledges Support for Tinubu
The Kogi State disability community has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led governments at the federal and state levels for promoting the rights, inclusion and political participation of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
The Director-General of the campaign network, Nazir, said the signing of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018 under an APC-led Federal Government provided a major legal framework for the protection, inclusion, dignity and advancement of persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
He said the commitment to disability inclusion was also demonstrated in Kogi State under the administration of former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, who took steps towards establishing the Kogi State Office for Disability Affairs.
Nazir expressed satisfaction with the level of political recognition given to PWDs in Kogi State over the past decade, particularly under the APC administration.
“It is under the APC-led administration in Kogi State that persons with disabilities began to receive greater recognition in the area of political inclusion and participation,” he said.
He added that the disability community would continue to support the administrations of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ododo on Disability Matters, Hon. Mukaila Sheidu, said the Kogi State Government is developing a comprehensive database of persons with disabilities across the state’s 21 local government areas.
According to him, the database is expected to improve government intervention programmes for PWDs and support economic planning aimed at improving the wellbeing of residents.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the campaign network, Ibrahim Daniel Arome, said the disability community in Kogi State would mobilise support for President Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential election.
He said the group was targeting more than 100,000 votes from persons with disabilities and their supporters in Kogi State.
