AI Is Transforming Agriculture, Banking and Education – Experts

AI

A Data scientist and a member of Ogun Tech Community, Bamidele Adenle on Tuesday, argued that Artificial Intelligence, AI, is no longer a futuristic concept but a present-day tool that is transforming every sector of the economy, from farming to banking, education, health,  journalism among others.

He noted that AI has become a key driver of efficiency, accuracy and innovation in everyday operations across Nigeria and Ogun State in particular.

Adenle spoke while appearing as a guest on Naija.AI, a tech program on Royal Fm 90.7 Abeokuta.

Speaking on the emerging skills & AI applications across various sectors, the  Doctoral student explained that AI was now being utilized in all facets of human life.

He explained that in agriculture and agribusiness, farmers are now deploying AI-powered tools for precision farming, including soil analysis, early detection of crop diseases and pests, weather prediction and yield optimization, which has helped to boost food production and reduce post-harvest losses.

According to him, AI is also helping agribusinesses with market pricing, supply chain tracking and smart irrigation systems, making agriculture more profitable and sustainable for smallholder and large-scale farmers.

In the banking and financial services sector,  Adenle said AI is powering fraud detection systems, automated customer service through chatbots, credit scoring, risk assessment and faster transaction processing, making banking safer and more efficient for customers.

“For journalism and media practice, AI is changing how news is gathered, verified and distributed, through tools for live transcription, content summarization, fact-checking, audience analytics and real-time reporting, while retaining the human element of storytelling,” he added.

He stressed that AI should not be seen as a threat that will take jobs, but as an enabler that enhances human capacity, allowing professionals in all fields to work smarter, faster and more creatively.

Also speaking, a Nigerian chartered IT professional, cybersecurity expert and President of Ogun Tech Community, Adekunle Durosimi, asserted that the educational sector has witnessed one of the biggest shifts, with AI supporting personalized learning platforms, virtual classrooms, automated grading, research assistance and improved access to global learning resources for students and teachers.

The expert noted that it is also bridging learning gaps in schools and tertiary institutions, enabling students in Abeokuta and beyond to learn at their own pace.

He, however, cautioned on the need for ethical use, digital literacy and proper regulation, warning that misuse of AI through deepfakes, misinformation, data breaches and privacy violations could erode its benefits if left unchecked.

The Academic registrar also called on government, private sector players, and educational institutions in Ogun State and Nigeria to invest heavily in AI literacy, digital infrastructure and skills acquisition to ensure youths and professionals are not left behind in the fourth industrial revolution.

According to him, embracing AI is no longer optional but essential for economic growth, job creation and national competitiveness, adding that the future belongs to those who learn to work with AI.
