FG Targets Global Tech Jobs with ‘Hire From Nigeria’ Campaign
The Federal Government has launched the “Hire From Nigeria” Campaign, seeking to position Nigerian technology professionals and digital experts for international jobs and contracts while working remotely from the country.
The initiative is designed to connect qualified Nigerian professionals, including software developers, cybersecurity experts, artificial intelligence specialists, cloud computing professionals and other digital service providers, with employers and clients across the world.
Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, said Nigeria must transform its youthful population into a demographic dividend through quality education, practical skills, credible certification and access to well-paying global jobs.
As part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital workforce, the Federal Government said the planned Digital Technology Academy will train more than 35,000 Nigerians in emerging technologies.
The training will cover software development, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing and IT automation, among other areas critical to the global digital economy.
The government said more than 200,000 Nigerians are currently undergoing skills training across over 1,200 skills centres, with programmes adopting an 80 percent practical and 20 per cent theoretical model.
Trainees are expected to be assessed and certified under the National Skills Qualification Framework.
The “Hire From Nigeria” Campaign is targeting one million export-linked jobs by 2030, with the government seeking to leverage Nigeria’s growing technology ecosystem and skilled workforce to compete in the global digital services market.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the initiative reflects the changing nature of global trade, where technology, knowledge and professional services can be delivered across international borders without the physical movement of goods.
