OPay Denies September Shutdown Rumour, Warns Customers

opay

OPay has dismissed a viral message claiming that the fintech company would suspend its operations and go on an indefinite break from September 1, 2026.

The message, circulated widely online, was presented as an “Official Note” purportedly issued by OPay Digital Services Limited. It claimed that the company would stop processing transactions and attending to account-related services until further notice.

The publication also urged customers to withdraw their funds “as soon as possible” to avoid inconvenience, triggering concern among some users and reportedly prompting some customers to move their funds.

However, OPay, in a statement shared through its verified social media platform, described the message as false and urged customers to disregard it.

“OPay is not going on break by September. We’re here, and we’re going nowhere!” the company said.

The fintech company said customers should scrutinise suspicious publications for red flags and rely on its verified communication channels for authentic information.

“True OPay users know how to identify our official communications. Take a closer look at the viral post and you’ll spot the red flags,” OPay said.

It added, “Always verify before you share. Filter the noise!”
