Oluremi Tinubu Urges Africans to Preserve Heritage, Strengthen Unity

Tinubu

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Africans and people of African descent to preserve their cultural heritage, strengthen unity and invest in education and empowerment.

She made the call in a message commemorating the 2026 International Day for People of African Descent, observed on August 31, with the theme, “People of African Descent: Recognition, Justice, and Development.”

Tinubu said the occasion provided an opportunity to celebrate the rich heritage and remarkable contributions of people of African descent to the progress of humanity.

According to her, the day should also serve as a reminder of the need to renew collective commitment to protecting human rights and creating opportunities for individuals to realise their full potential.

“As Africans, we must continue to preserve our rich cultural heritage, strengthen unity across the continent and the diaspora, and invest in the education, empowerment, and well-being of our people,” she said.

The First Lady emphasised the importance of promoting the welfare and development of people of African descent while ensuring that their history, culture and contributions remain recognised.

She also called for continued efforts to create opportunities that would enable individuals and communities to contribute meaningfully to national and global development.

Tinubu concluded her message by extending greetings to Africans and people of African descent around the world as they mark the international day.

“Happy International Day for People of African Descent 2026,” she said.
