Ogun Police Probe Alleged Land Grabbing, Deploy Patrols to Ajogbo Akia
The Ogun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into allegations of farmland destruction, criminal intimidation and land grabbing activities in Ajogbo Akia community.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation following media reports on concerns raised by the traditional leadership and residents of the community.
The command said the investigation would establish the facts surrounding the allegations, identify those responsible for any criminal acts and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the law.
In a statement issued on Friday, August 28, 2026, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, clarified that disputes over land ownership, title and boundary adjustments are civil matters that should be resolved through competent courts.
However, the police said individuals with legitimate land titles and statutory ownership documents have the right to report criminal acts, including malicious damage to crops, destruction of property, criminal trespass and threats to life.
To prevent a breakdown of law and order, the command directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers responsible for the area to deploy high-visibility patrols and intelligence personnel to Ajogbo Akia and surrounding agricultural corridors.
The patrol teams have been instructed to operate during the day and night to ensure farmers and residents can access their farmlands and carry out their lawful activities without fear of violence, harassment or unlawful interference.
The command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against illegal land grabbing, self-help and threats to life, while commending the traditional ruler of Ajogbo Akia, Baale Dr. Oluwasegun Adebiyi, and other community leaders for seeking police intervention rather than resorting to violence.
The police urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding and cooperate with investigators by providing useful information that could assist in maintaining lasting peace in the community and across Ogun State.
