Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling cancer.

Hassan died at about 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, according to a burial announcement by fellow actor Jide Kosoko. His daughter, Kira Taiwo, also announced his death in an emotional social media video.

His death comes just days after members of his family publicly revealed that the veteran actor had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and appealed for assistance in securing further medical treatment.

The development marks the end of a decades-long career in the Yoruba film industry, where Hassan became widely recognised for his memorable performances and his contribution to the growth of Nigerian cinema.

Hassan, who was born in Ilaro, Ogun State, on October 31, 1959, began his working life as an automobile mechanic before eventually making acting his full-time career. He also worked with the Lagos State Water Corporation for about 13 years.

The actor featured in numerous Yoruba and English-language productions and was particularly known for his roles in films such as Aníkúlápó, Omo Ghetto, Tenant of the House and Bank Alert.

His death follows an earlier false report of his passing on August 18, which his family strongly dismissed at the time.

According to the burial announcement, Ogogo’s remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, with his burial scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2026.
