Seven Miners Killed in Fresh Mining Tragedy in Plateau

A tragedy has occured in Plateau as mining site collapsed on miners, killing seven of them.

The incident happened in Gassa community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Thursday evening while the victims were on duty inside the pit.

The Plateau State Commissioner for Environment, Climate Change and Mineral Development, Hon. Peter Kanang Gwom, expressed sadness over the incident and condoled with the families of the victims and the Gassa community.

Gwom said the loss of lives in mining-related incidents remained a serious concern. He stressed the need to strengthen safety standards, regulatory compliance, monitoring and responsible mining practices to protect the lives and livelihoods of residents.

The Commissioner prayed for strength for the bereaved families and eternal rest for the victims.
