Nigeria, Gambia Forge New Tech Partnership to Boost Skills, Innovation
Nigeria and The Gambia are set to deepen cooperation in technology, skills development and innovation following a high-level engagement between the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and the Gambian Government.
The partnership was discussed during a visit by a Gambian government delegation to NASENI headquarters in Abuja, where officials explored opportunities for collaboration in technology development, technical training, research and industrial innovation.
According to NASENI, the engagement is aimed at building stronger links between the two countries’ technology ecosystems and creating opportunities for knowledge transfer, skills development and commercialisation of research outcomes.
During the visit, NASENI showcased some of its technological capabilities, including renewable energy solutions, solar photovoltaic systems, power electronics, embedded systems, industrial automation, agricultural engineering, advanced manufacturing and nanotechnology.
The agency also highlighted its efforts to develop technical skills and strengthen research laboratories and innovation centres as part of its broader mandate to support Nigeria’s industrial and technological development.
NASENI said the collaboration could open the door for Gambian researchers, students and technical professionals to access specialised training, research facilities and technology development opportunities.
The two sides also discussed possible cooperation in areas including curriculum development, technical training, certification, joint research, technology development and the commercialisation of research outcomes.
The Gambian delegation expressed interest in learning from Nigeria’s experience in technology development and institutional capacity building, while seeking stronger cooperation between relevant agencies in both countries.
NASENI said the cooperation is expected to strengthen regional collaboration in science, technology, engineering and innovation and contribute to the development of skilled manpower needed to drive Africa’s emerging digital and industrial economy.
