VDM Fires Back at Critics, Alleges Peter Okoye Wanted to Use His Platform

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has responded to critics questioning why he publicly addressed his dispute with singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the former P-Square members.

VDM gave the response in the comment section of a video on Instagram after some users argued that Peter Okoye should not respond to him because the singer had allegedly approached him privately to seek his advice.

Rejecting the argument, VDM said Peter did not approach him simply as a friend seeking personal counsel but because of his influence and position on social media.

According to VDM, Peter travelled from Lagos to Abuja in 2025 to meet him and allegedly presented documents, bank transactions, laptop evidence and other materials concerning allegations he had made against his brothers and former manager, Jude Okoye.

VDM questioned why Peter would specifically choose him when, according to him, the singer had several other people he could have approached for advice.

“Am I older than Peter Okoye? Peter Okoye doesn’t have other friends?” VDM asked, while also questioning whether the singer could not have sought advice from his elder brother, wife, pastor, imam or other people close to him.

VDM argued that Peter’s decision to meet him was connected to his reputation and influence on social media.

“Peter Okoye came to me for one reason… because of my position today on the media,” he said.

He alleged that Peter wanted him to use his platform to speak against his brothers and influence public opinion in his favour.

VDM said he initially kept the information Peter allegedly shared with him private for more than a year and only decided to speak publicly after becoming concerned about the direction of the dispute and what he described as inconsistencies in the information he had received.

“I have heard all of these information for over a year. I did not spill it for one day. I did not open my mouth to say it once,” he said.

The activist maintained that he would not knowingly use his platform to promote information he later discovered to be false.

“If you come to me and say you want to confide in me with a lie, I will cast you 100 per cent,” he stated.

VDM also rejected the suggestion that Peter’s alleged decision to confide in him meant he was obligated to remain silent or support the singer’s position.

“I am a man of myself. I don’t seek validation from people,” he said.

The activist further questioned some of the allegations reportedly made during the dispute involving Peter and his brothers, including claims concerning hundreds of thousands of dollars and alleged bank accounts. He argued that such claims should be supported by evidence and proper investigation.

VDM also revisited his earlier claim that Peter had told him that Nigerian rapper Phyno had been scammed by Jude Okoye and would testify in court. VDM said he later encountered Phyno, who allegedly denied being scammed by Jude and claimed he had not spoken with Peter for years.

According to VDM, the alleged contradiction contributed to his decision to distance himself from the dispute and stop responding to Peter’s calls and messages.

He also accused Peter of attempting to use his social-media platform to advance his position against his brothers, saying he would rather stand by what he believes to be the truth than rely on another person’s account.

“Okoye wanted to use me to his advantage. To speak against your brothers,” VDM said.
