Oyinlola’s APC Endorsement Won’t Stop Adeleke’s Re-election, Accord Says

The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has dismissed the political significance of former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola’s endorsement of All Progressives Congress governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The party said the endorsement by Oyinlola and some other Peoples Democratic Party leaders would not prevent Governor Ademola Adeleke from seeking re-election.

Osun Accord Chairman, Victor Akande, made the position known in a statement signed by him and obtained in Osogbo on Monday.

Akande alleged that Oyinlola, alongside former Secretary to the Osun State Government, Fatai Akinbade, and former Commissioner for Special Duties, Tajudeen Oladipo, had previously worked against Adeleke during the 2018 and 2022 elections.

He claimed that the politicians later returned to Adeleke’s administration after the governor won the 2022 election.

The Accord chairman therefore argued that their latest decision to support Oyebamiji would have little effect on Adeleke’s chances at the poll.

“Osun Accord remains ever strong and Governor Adeleke remains unbeatable in the forthcoming polls,” Akande said.

The development followed a declaration by Oyinlola and other PDP stakeholders supporting Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, at an event in Osogbo.

Oyinlola said the group decided to support the APC candidate because of what he described as a lack of inclusiveness in the Adeleke administration.

He said the decision was based on what the group considered necessary for the progress of the state and urged Oyebamiji, if elected, to prioritise good governance, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and youth empowerment.
