Troops Recover Remains of Slain Imo Community Leader From Shallow Grave

Troops of Operation UDO KA have exhumed the remains of a community leader allegedly murdered by a criminal gang in Imo State, following a confession by one of the suspects arrested during ongoing security operations in the South-East.

The Nigerian Army disclosed that the breakthrough was recorded by troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade under Operation EASTERN SANITY II, after intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrest of suspects linked to the killing of a soldier and the theft of service weapons.

According to the Army, one of the suspects confessed during interrogation to participating in the murder of Chief Ibe Anyadu of Aggah Community and subsequently led troops to the burial site.

On August 2, 2026, the suspects guided security personnel to a shallow grave located in the Umudike Forest, identified as one of the gang’s operational camps, where the remains of the late community leader were recovered.

The exhumation was witnessed by members of Chief Anyadu’s family, vigilante personnel from Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, and representatives of the Aggah and Umudike communities. The family provided a coffin and an ambulance to ensure the deceased received a dignified burial in line with local customs and traditions.

The Commander of the Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, Major General Oluremi Ayobami Fadairo, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that justice would be served.

He said the arrested suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
