The Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Rabiu Olowo, has donated a fully furnished Accounting Research Centre of Excellence to Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, to strengthen accounting education and research.

The project was unveiled during a groundbreaking ceremony held at the university on Monday.

Speaking on behalf of Dr. Olowo, the project coordinator, Dr. Mohammed Umar, described the centre as a world-class facility designed in line with international best practices to support teaching, learning and academic research.

According to him, the centre will feature a digital library accessible to accounting students in universities across Nigeria, providing access to digital accounting textbooks and other academic resources through partnerships with local and international professional bodies.

“The digital library will also give lecturers access to the latest publications to support their research and teaching,” Umar said.

He added that the facility would be equipped with a 24-hour power supply, high-speed internet connectivity and a borehole, while state-of-the-art seminar rooms would provide an enabling environment for teaching, learning and professional development.

Umar described the project as a major step toward improving access to knowledge and research opportunities within the institution.

He disclosed that the centre would also mobilise research funding to support academic research within Prince Abubakar Audu University and other higher institutions.

Describing Dr. Olowo as a distinguished alumnus of the university, Umar said his passion for knowledge sharing and academic excellence inspired the establishment of the research centre.

He noted that the centre is expected to become a hub for innovation in accounting education and research and would be sustained through the support of stakeholders and partners.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, commended Dr. Olowo for the initiative and described the donation as a significant contribution to the university’s development.

He urged other alumni of the institution to emulate Dr. Olowo’s generosity by supporting projects that would enhance teaching, research and infrastructure development at the university.
