Two months after Alexx Ekubo’s death, Nancy Isime still honours late actor with display picture
Two months after the death of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, actress and television host Nancy Isime has continued to honour his memory by retaining his photograph as her social media display picture.
The subtle but enduring tribute has drawn fresh attention from fans, many of whom have interpreted the gesture as a reflection of the close bond the pair shared and the lasting impact of the actor’s passing.
Ekubo died in May 2026 at the age of 40 following complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer, according to a statement released by his family. His death was met with widespread grief across the Nigerian entertainment industry, with colleagues, fans and public figures paying tribute to his life and career.
Among those deeply affected was Nancy Isime, who later revealed that hosting the actor’s Service of Songs was the most emotionally challenging assignment of her career. She disclosed that she initially declined the role because she was still struggling to process his death but eventually accepted after appeals from his family and close associates.
Speaking at the memorial, Isime said she found it difficult to associate Ekubo’s name with the phrase “rest in peace,” noting that grief is deeply personal and that everyone mourns differently.
While many public tributes have gradually subsided in the weeks following the actor’s passing, Isime’s continued use of Ekubo’s photograph as her display picture has remained a visible expression of remembrance.
