NEMA Distributes Relief Materials to Windstorm Victims in Niger

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to households affected by the recent windstorm that devastated Bangi, Sharadi and Durgu communities in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

The distribution exercise took place on Saturday, July 26, 2026, following the Federal Government’s approval of humanitarian assistance to support victims and ease the hardship caused by the disaster.

Leading the exercise, the Head of Operations of NEMA’s Minna Operations Office, Mr. Hussaini Isah, represented by the Head of Planning, Research and Forecasting Unit, Hajiya Ramatu Turaki, said the intervention was part of the Federal Government’s commitment to providing immediate relief to disaster victims.

The exercise was carried out in collaboration with the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and other stakeholders at the Ministry of Works, Unguwan Gwari, Kontagora.

Among those who received the NEMA delegation were the Chairman of Mariga Local Government Area, Hon. Aliyu Bagga Muhammad; former Council Chairman, Hon. Idris Ibrahim; the Personal Assistant to the member representing Kontagora/Mariga/Mashegu/Wushishi Federal Constituency, Alhaji Musa Muhammad Dabai; the Village Head, Alhaji Ya’u Buskum; and other local government officials.

Relief items distributed to verified beneficiaries included bags of rice, beans, vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, iodised salt, wax prints and guinea brocade.

NEMA said the distribution was supervised by its officials, alongside representatives of NSEMA, community leaders and other stakeholders, to ensure transparency, accountability and orderly distribution of the items.

Beneficiaries commended the Federal Government and NEMA for the intervention, describing the assistance as timely support that would help affected families recover from the impact of the windstorm.
