Paul Ibe Accuses Presidency of Trying to Whitewash Tinubu’s US Narcotics Case

Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has accused the Presidency of attempting to “whitewash” records relating to President Bola Tinubu’s alleged involvement in a narcotics trafficking case in the United States.
In a press statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, Ibe described a recent statement by Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, as “reckless and shameful.”
According to Ibe, the Presidency’s response sought to “bury the records of the narcotics trafficking case against Bola Tinubu in the US under an unwieldy and hollow essay.”
He expressed concern over the Presidency’s claim that the matter had “long been settled” and rendered moot by Tinubu’s electoral mandate.
Ibe argued that such a position amounted to an admission that Tinubu was investigated in connection with narcotics trafficking, while suggesting that his current position as President grants him immunity and wipes the records of the alleged scandal clean.
The statement questioned why the President was allegedly “blocking every move to unravel what is in his FBI/DOJ US files” if the case was truly time-barred.
Ibe further stated that “having an alleged ex-trafficker in that office inflicts serious reputational damage on Nigeria’s image and on every Nigerian on the global stage.”
He maintained that issues of criminal justice could be revisited, particularly when new circumstances arise.
