Akume Urges Code of Conduct Tribunal to Embrace Digital Technology for Justice Delivery

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has urged the Code of Conduct Tribunal to adopt digital technology in the administration of justice, saying the move will improve case management, records administration and overall operational efficiency.

Akume made the call on Tuesday in Abuja when he received the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Dr. Mainasara Umar Kogo, and members of the Tribunal’s management team during a courtesy visit to his office.

According to a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Akume said the Code of Conduct Tribunal digital technology initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s agenda to modernise public institutions through digital transformation, improved service delivery and enhanced inter-agency coordination.

“The Tribunal should continue to embrace technology to improve case management, records administration and overall operational efficiency in line with the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda,” Akume said.

The SGF commended the Tribunal for its commitment to promoting integrity, accountability and ethical standards in Nigeria’s public service, describing its constitutional role in adjudicating breaches of the Code of Conduct for public officers as a vital pillar in the nation’s anti-corruption architecture.

He said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu places high priority on institutional reforms, public sector efficiency, integrity and strict adherence to the rule of law.

Akume noted that strengthening the Code of Conduct Tribunal digital technology framework would not only enhance justice delivery but also contribute to sustainable national development, economic growth and investor confidence.

The SGF reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting institutions that promote accountability, transparency, selfless leadership and responsible public service in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also called for stronger collaboration among key government institutions to achieve the objectives of integrity and accountability, while encouraging the Tribunal to sustain engagement with Ministries, Departments and Agencies to improve compliance with ethical standards and constitutional obligations.

Earlier, Kogo said the visit was to brief the SGF on his one-year scorecard as Chairman of the Tribunal, noting that the institution had embarked on far-reaching reforms to strengthen its capacity and enhance the delivery of justice.

He disclosed that the Tribunal had conducted inspection visits to all its zonal offices across the country to assess operational needs, evaluate performance and implement measures to improve efficiency and service delivery.

Kogo added that the Tribunal had strengthened collaboration with sister anti-corruption agencies and civil society organisations to harmonise efforts in the fight against corruption and ensure the effective dispensation of justice.

The Chairman said the enhanced partnership had fostered greater institutional synergy and reinforced public confidence in Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework.
