The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, disclosed this on Monday, August 31, 2026, while providing an update on efforts to rescue the remaining victims.

Kankarofi said police operatives were currently combing the surrounding forests in collaboration with other security agencies to locate and rescue the 10 corps members still in captivity.

The police commissioner also clarified reports suggesting that the five rescued NYSC members were among the 11 travellers rescued during a joint security operation last week.

According to him, the 11 people rescued during the earlier operation were other travellers who were caught up in the attack and were not part of the group of NYSC members abducted in the incident.

He said the five corps members were rescued separately as security operatives intensified efforts to secure the release of the remaining victims.

Kankarofi further disclosed that several suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack, adding that investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the abduction and identify other individuals involved.

The police commissioner assured the public that security operatives would continue the search until the remaining corps members were rescued.
