The National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, disclosed this when he received the National Coordinator of NASSCO, Dr Funmi Olotu, and her delegation during a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Olotu highlighted the large volume of personal data handled by NASSCO, including information relating to vulnerable Nigerians, and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to working with the NDPC to ensure compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

Olatunji said strong data protection compliance was essential to strengthening institutional credibility and building public trust, particularly for organisations handling sensitive personal information on a large scale.

He identified key measures NASSCO should implement, including appropriate technical and organisational safeguards, a clear privacy policy, the appointment of a Data Protection Officer and regular data protection training for personnel.

The NDPC chief also urged NASSCO to ensure that its data processing activities comply with the provisions of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, as well as applicable global data protection standards.

As part of the engagement, Olatunji proposed a capacity-building programme for NASSCO personnel to improve their understanding and implementation of data protection requirements.

He also proposed the establishment of a joint working committee between both organisations to coordinate the implementation of agreed measures and strengthen NASSCO’s overall data protection compliance.
