The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has challenged former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi over his claim that he left office without outstanding debts or financial obligations.

Onanuga, in a post on social media, said the Anambra State Government had presented figures and records contradicting Obi’s account of the state’s finances when he handed over power in 2014.

The presidential aide alleged that Obi’s administration left outstanding obligations involving workers of the Anambra State Water Corporation, teachers, pensions and gratuities.

Onanuga also alleged that some loans obtained during the period were used for purposes he described as frivolous.

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has called for collective action to tackle erosion and flooding, which he said have continued to threaten homes, farmlands and communities across the state.

Soludo made the call as Anambra marked its 35th anniversary, stressing that environmental protection must remain a priority in the state’s development plans.

The governor said government alone could not address the environmental challenges facing Anambra, urging residents to take responsibility for protecting their communities.

“The erosion and flooding that have claimed homes and farmlands will only be curbed when every citizen plays their part,” Soludo said.

He urged residents to plant trees, stop indiscriminate dumping of waste, protect drainage systems and keep their surroundings clean as part of measures to reduce the impact of flooding and erosion.

Soludo said the state must move towards a greener and more sustainable future, with increased tree cover, clean waterways and communities better protected from environmental hazards.

“It is time to be intentional. We must move from concrete jungles to a green Anambra — with trees, clean waterways, and communities protected from erosion and flooding,” he said.

The governor noted that the anniversary should not only be an occasion to celebrate the progress made over the past 35 years but also an opportunity to renew collective commitment to building a healthier, more liveable and prosperous state.

He urged Anambra residents to embrace environmental responsibility, stressing that individual actions such as proper waste disposal, tree planting and keeping drainage channels clear could contribute significantly to addressing erosion and flooding.

“Let us choose green. Let us choose the future,” Soludo said.
